The Rotary Club of Kyoto South is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Looking back on the 50-year history from the club's founding, I see that by the leadership of charter members and successive presidents, and also by the devotion and efforts of our senior members, the Kyoto South RC has developed into a club full of vitality.
For these past 50 years, the state of the Rotary movement has been gradually changing, showing a great progress. Especially I can see it in the transformation of the Standard Rotary Club Constitution. The organization of the Rotary itself has been changing with the times. How we should respond to this transformation is an important question, and I think that on the occasion of our 50th anniversary, it is very important to look back on the starting point of our club. We must once again understand the ideals of both Paul Harris, the founder of the Rotary, and the charter members of the Kyoto South RC.
This year's RI Theme is "Lend a Hand." Lending a hand in our family, club, vocation, community, and the world is an extremely big theme. To practice this theme, I'd like to emphasize activities that promote friendship, which our club's charter members considered the most important for the ideal of service.
This year's Club Theme is "Shake Hands." Let's hold each other's hand and strive hard for the ideal of service. The Sub Theme "Act with Compassion and Preserve the Club's Principles" is a guideline for practicing the main theme. I hope we all can engage in Rotary activities with generosity and compassion.
